Week 5: September 21, 2020 -- September 25, 2020 -- Her Bag Of Goodies

The last day of the first nine-week grading period: October 16, 2020

OCT website here.
Calendar here.

I am blown away by the resources being provided to Sophia in her first year of grade school. Simply blown away.

I will provide more background later, but wanted to bring everybody up to speed regarding the package she received last week. It's quite incredible. Scroll to bottom to see photos of the five things in her "goodie bag." Recommend: leave everything in her zip lock bag.

1. Foundations Journal. Last week, her Humanities teacher said to write a story in her Foundations Journal. We did not have a Foundations Journal and I, like most other parents, I bet, wrote the teacher to say we did not have the Foundations Journal. We have it now. It is a periodic journal; each entry with a large introductory square for a drawing, painting, or title of the essay. Then two pays of first-grade lines for beginning writers. It is awesome.

2. Numerous additional free pages of lined paper for writing.

3. Student Notebook: alphabet work, level 1. Sophia is clearly beyond level 1. She could complete this book in one night if she wanted, I think.

4. Five books to read, each about ten pages long. She read the first one to me today. A second one she said she had already read at Tutor Time but was eager to read it again because she couldn't remember how it ended. The books are slightly easier than what she is used to reading but I think they are about perfect. They will be added to her 100-book challenge.

5. A bag of stacking blocks (small, LEGO-like) which I bet are for counting.

Sophia was so thrilled to get the bag of goodies.

Recommend: keeping everything together in the bag.

Another app: in addition, there is another app to be downloaded. I will let you do that on her iPad. But if there's not enough data space, I can download it on my iPad. I think the app is free; don't know. I will scan the information and attach it here, later, but the information is in the zip-lock bag with everything else.

This is the new app information:

Daily Activity Report -- September 22, 2020

Spanish! This was another huge day. We paid for a year's subscription to Duolingo. Sophia now has her own account for learning Spanish. She is so excited. It requires an adult to work with her so I am learning Spanish with her.

Piano! Sophia also got her first "piano" diploma today. A diploma for "Piano Basics." In Piano Basics she learned the first five notes for the right hand (A through G) and she learned how to read sheet music.

In addition to Webex, Seesaw, piano and Spanish, Sophia also accomplished the following.

See her "numbers" video accomplished to day also.
